GOALKEEPER CURRICULUM

The advanced training environment has been designed specifically to improve a young GK’s technical tool box as it relates to all aspects of their position. The mornings cover the basics of footwork, handling & diving, to the more advanced aspects of shot-stopping. The afternoon sessions will focus on aspects of distribution and the GK’s very important role within the team. Small-sided games allow everything to come together for the GK to create a truly special week of soccer for the player who is striving to get to the next level.
SOCCERSIZE
- Develops a player’s coordination and body mechanics with a ball
- Ball mastery and dribbling combinations
- Juggling, technique, freestyle (lifts, tricks and freezes) and skills challenges
SHOT STOPPING
- Aggressive starting position
- Be in line, down line, be set in time
- Decision making skills catch, parry or deflect
- To be able to think with feet and hands concentrating on low, mid and shot stopping at various distances and angles
- Supports in identifying the importance of movement, body and foot positioning, along with timing required to succeed in each skill
HANDLING

- Proper hand and body positioning when catching the ball (Triangle Technique)

PRESENCE IN GOAL
- Develop an aggressive starting position
- Learn and develop communication skills and techniques
- Be authoritative in goal and confident in your decision making skills
- Learn how to set up defensive set pieces including corners, free kicks, throw ins and penalties
CROSSING

Introduce the “J” run and the importance of taking the proper path towards the highest point of the ball and getting the outside knee up for protection.

Being vocal, Calling KEEPER when coming out for a cross and commanding the box.
DISTRIBUTION
- Have the ability to throw and kick the ball with both hands and feet
- Develop a wide range of techniques with both hands and feet
- Have the ability to kick short, mid and long distances using a variety of techniques
- Ability to create angles in goal and be an option to receive the ball and play like a modern day goalkeeper
